- <p> "It's rare that a film can be put to such a practical use,"
- said actor Daniel Day-Lewis (A Room with a View). He was
- referring to My Left Foot, in which he plays painter Christy
- Brown, who had cerebral palsy. Last week Day-Lewis, 32, visited
- Washington to back legislation banning discrimination against
- the disabled. The actor knows his subject: his late stepfather
- was paralyzed. "He did not want to be a burden to anyone,"
- Day-Lewis says. "But Christy Brown insisted on making noise."
